MAIN LINES OF RESEARCH OF THE MARINE BIOLOGY LABORATORY
The Marine Biology Laboratory of the University of Seville, led by Dr. José Carlos García Gómez, was created in 1988 and affiliated to the Andalusian Research Plan (RNM-136) and also manages the facilities linked to the University of Seville Biology Faculty, the Seville Aquarium (Biological R&D&I Research Area) and Marine Biology Station of Ceuta. It currently develops the following lines of research, among other collateral actions:
- Biological conservation of benthic protected species;
- Diagnostic, surveillance and environmental monitoring of the impacts on the marine environment and in transitional waters, with special attention to the Guadalquivir river estuary;
- Characterization of environmental quality bioindicators and implementation of methods for their use in the evaluation of impacts and quality monitoring programs for coastal and transitional waters;
- Taxonomy of marine invertebrates, ecology of their communities and study of invasive species;
- Environmental monitoring of global warming in the coastal area (evolution of benthic bioindicators) and greenhouse gases effect studies in controlled environments.
